"Rachel mourns her children; she refuses to be consoled because her children are no more. Thus says the Lord: Cease your cries of mourning. Wipe the tears from your eyes. The sorrow you have shown shall have its reward. There is hope for your future."
- Jeremiah 31: 15-17
WHAT IS PROJECT RACHEL?
Project Rachel is a means for you to receive the healing grace of God through sacramental reconciliation, counseling and prayer. It offers you an opportunity through loving, caring and understanding outreach to move toward reconciliation - with yourself, your unborn child, your family, your Church and your God.
ABORTION AFTERMATH
Abortion is an agonizing experience for a woman, the father of the unborn child, grandparents, other family members and friends. The temporary relief following an abortion is commonly replaced with depression and feelings of grief and guilt. Many women experience eating and sleeping problems, difficulties in concentrating, nightmares, relationship problems, bouts of crying and nagging feelings of self-blame and anger.
A LOVING CHURCH
The Catholic church has always spoken out strongly against abortion, but, likewise, has always maintained a tradition of love, understanding and forgiveness.
If you, or someone you know, have been touched by the trauma of abortion, we want you to know that your Church understands and cares about you. We want you to know that we are willing to help you with the healing process.
WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT?
Project Rachel is a private, confidential experience. By simply calling the Project Rachel number, you will be put in touch with a person trained to understand your problems. Your meeting can include preparation for the sacrament of reconciliation through counseling with trained staff from Catholic Charities Offices of the Diocese of Springfield in Illinois , and/or other trained parish ministers. Talking over your concerns can help you deal with many unresolved feelings and conflicts.
THE FIRST STEP
Often, the first step can be the most difficult, yet is so simple. If you are interested, please call or write Project Rachel for more information. You do not need to make your identity known to us and all matters will remain private and confidential.
Call us at Project Rachel, because your Church loves you, understands you and wants to help you . . .

Suggested Websites
PROJECT RACHEL website http://www.hopeafterabortion.org/ has an excellent fact sheet on the adverse psychological reactions to abortion, post-abortion grief, flaws in much post-abortion research, and links to some of the best research. It will include women's stories "in their own words", a section on prayer and a section in Spanish.
