Complete the Synod's Preliminary Phase Questionnaire

Discipleship is about relationship with Jesus Christ

The Preparatory Commission has developed a list of questions for the Preliminary Phase of the Synod. This feedback will be used to formulate the questions that become the instrumentum laboris, the working papers of the Synod.

What is a synod?

"Throughout the history of the Church, the people of God have held synods, a formal gathering of prayer, dialogue, reflection and discernment whose purpose is to live the mission of Jesus with greater fervor and effectiveness. Some synods are universal, such as the one held in Rome in 2015 to discuss marriage and family, while others are diocesan, held to discuss local concerns. Coming from the ancient Greek, the word "synod" means "walking together." We see in this etymology the vision of the whole Church gathered as one ad moving forward to grasp Christ and His saving Gospel."

In the months ahead during this calendar year of 2017, our Diocesan Synod will consider how we can make a communal commitment as a diocesan community of clergy and laity regarding discipleship and stewardship as a way of life. Closely related to this will be for us to look at how we can foster community-wide support of Catholic education so that more students will be able to attend Catholic schools.

Why are we having a synod?

Bishop Paprocki and the Diocesan Synod

"My main hope for our diocesan synod is that our clergy and laity together with me will make a heartfelt commitment to stewardship and discipleship as a way of life. We will need to overcome our doubts and fears in order to succeed in this endeavor. In the end, what makes this so important is that it is all about our future as a church: whether we will diminish or grow as a community of faith. I fervently pray that it will be the latter, showering our diocese with abundant blessings of unprecedented growth."
