"You just ask the Father to guide you, comfort, and keep you. Jesus is willing to help you and he will see you through." This refrain is from an old Negro spiritual. It reflects the guiding force in Father Tolton's life and is a model for the faithful today. Born into slavery, God took him from physical bondage to spiritual freedom. Along the way he welcomed many people to join him on the journey to our Father's house. During all of his trials and tribulations he stood fast in his belief that God will see you through. And, by his life we should encourage others to join us on the journey to our Father's house. Like Father Augustine Tolton said, "we should welcome all people into the church, not send them away". So maybe one day we shall all gather at the river that flows by the Throne of God.
