Hyland Smith

I grew up in Greene County, attending elementary school in Carrollton, IL, and graduated from Greenfield High School in 1995. I graduated from Eastern Illinois University in 1999 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology. I returned to Eastern Illinois to study for a Master of Arts degree in Clinical Psychology, which I finished in 2006. Before I entered the seminary, I was working as a counselor for adolescents in Jacksonville, IL.

At the Easter vigil of 2004, I was received into the Catholic Church at St. John's in Carrollton, IL. My home parish is St. Michael's Parish in Greenfield, IL. After joining the Church, I began praying about my vocation. After a couple of years of discernment I began attending Mundelein Seminary in the fall of 2007. I am proud to be studying for the Diocese of Springfield in Illinois and will continue to discern God's call for me.
