The Diocese of Springfield in Illinois is looking for 12 young adults to spend the summer serving youth as teachers of an exciting catechetical program called Totus Tuus. The summer 2012 season is from May 24 through July 28 with a break over the Independence Day holiday. Latin for “Totally Yours” that comes from Blessed Pope John Paul II’s papal motto, Totus Tuus staff members are asked to be “totally yours” for young people by helping them come closer to Christ through personal witness, Christian presence and catechetical instruction. Training is provided and teams travel throughout the diocese staying with host families in local parishes to present the Totus Tuus program.
The teachers who run the Totus Tuus program are college students and seminarians who strive to help young people understand their faith through catechesis in order to live that faith more fully. Teachers are trained and sent out in teams of four (two men and two women) to a parish for a week, traveling to different parishes throughout the summer.
The teachers are chosen based upon their desire to teach the faith, their love of children, energy and enthusiasm, and for their individual leadership abilities. In order to run a week of Totus Tuus Summer Program smoothly, all teachers adhere to a well-defined schedule which has a structured prayer life as its foundation. All of the teachers have background checks and comply with diocesan child protection policies.
