Religious Education

Faith is a gift from God. In his Providence, God has chosen to use human instruments to ensure the growth of the faith received in Baptism. Under the prayerful intercession of the Virgin Mary, who was herself both a disciple and a catechist, members of the Church community are called not only to grow in knowledge of the faith but, at the same time, to pass on that faith to others.

- National Directory for Catechesis, no. 53

Without the faithful service of parish catechists and teachers the Church would be severely hindered in its mission to “make disciples of all nations.” (Matt 28:19) By presenting the Catholic faith with joy and living lives of holiness, they bear witness to Christ and encourage others in their journey of faith.

Through the Office for Catechesis, catechists in the diocese have the opportunity to come together for shared learning and reflection. The office also administers the Catechist Formation Process to ensure that teachers and catechists are formed in the faith and prepared to hand on the faith to their students.
