Diocesan Adult Enrichment Conference to be held November 16-17

SPRINGFIELD — The 2014 Diocesan Adult Enrichment Conference (DAEC) will be held Nov. 16-17 at the Decatur Conference and Hotel in Decatur, Illinois.

“This year our focus is “Growing Communities of Faith,” a theme which brings to mind Jesus’ parables of sowing and harvesting. The Church is called to sow the Word of God – to pro-claim Christ in word and deed – in order that we might reap an abundant harvest of faith,” says Jonathan Sullivan, director of the Office for Catechesis

The scheduled keynote speaker on November 16-17 is Sherry Weddell,co-founder of the Catherine of Siena Institute and author of Forming Intentional Disciples: The Path to Knowing and Following Jesus (OSV, 2012).The closing address will be given by Kathy Mears, executive director of elementary education, National Catholic Education Association. Breakout sessions will be offered by a variety of local and national speakers, including Fr. Brian Alford, Ashley Collins, Vicki Compton, Karla Crews, Sori Govin, Dr. Susan Grenough, Eliot Kapitan, Kathy Mears, Ken Ogorek, and D. Todd Williamson.

Other features of the DAEC will be Morning Prayer and Sunday Mass led by Bishop Thomas John Paprocki of the Diocese of Springfield in Illinois. A Pre-Conference will be held November 15 with sessions on Athletics, Young Adult Ministry and Youth Ministry. In addition, more than 30 vendors will be featured at DAEC offering information, services, educational and spiritual items.

“The DAEC is an event for all Catholic adults. There will be sessions and interests for anyone who desires continuing education, formation, catechesis and spiritual development in their Catholic faith,” says Chris Malmevik, chairperson of DAEC and associate director for Catechesis.
