Bishop Paprocki to Celebrate Red Mass At Cathedral
Cardinal Francis George, Justice Robert Thomas Scheduled to Attend

SPRINGFIELD — On Tuesday, March 10, Bishop Thomas John Paprocki and the St. Thomas More Lawyers Guild of Springfield invite people to the Red Mass at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Springfield.

Bishop Paprocki will celebrate Mass and Cardinal Francis George, archbishop emeritus of Chicago, is scheduled to deliver the homily. Invitations have been extended to Gov. Bruce Rainer, state constitutional officers, state House and Senate leadership, legislators and area civic officials to join the public at the 5:15 p.m. Mass. Red vestments will be worn in honor of the Holy Spirit whose wisdom and guidance are sought for attorneys, judges and civil leaders. Judges are invited to be part of the entrance procession and attend the Mass wearing their judicial robes.

Illinois Supreme Court Justice Robert Thomas will be guest speaker after Mass at a catered dinner in the Cathedral Atrium. Thomas, a Notre Dame graduate who played 10 seasons with the Chicago Bears from 1975-84, has been on the court since 2000. He will speak on “The Lord in the midst of our disappointments.”

The meal will cost $30 per attendee and payments will be collected after Mass. Non-Catholics who work in the legal profession are also invited to the event.
