Event to Honor Catholic High School Senior Athletes

SPRINGFIELD — Catholic Athletes for Christ (CAC) of the Diocese of Springfield in Illinois is holding the first Senior Springboard Event at the West Campus Gym of Sacred Heart-Griffin High School, 1325 W. Washington St. in Springfield on Sunday, April 26, 2015 at 3 p.m. The event is being held to honor Catholic high school senior athletes. Attendees, besides the athletes, will include parents, principals, athletic directors, and CAC moderators and facilitators.

Mike McGlinn, former Notre Dame Football star, is the main speaker. This will be followed by a presentation of St. Sebastian medals and prayer cards to the senior athletes and a blessing of the athletes by Bishop Thomas John Paprocki.

CAC chapters were established in all of the diocese’s  Catholic high schools beginning with the 2014-2015 school year.  CAC is designed to provide student athletes, both male and female, with opportunities to embrace their Catholic faith and to be daily witnesses to their faith. The program was designed to instill  in athletes the values of charity, honesty, humility, meekness, moderation, purity and sportsmanship.

Bishop Paprocki and the CAC steering committee members are pleased to offer this culminating CAC activity to honor senior athletes,  show appreciation for their witness to faith and to send them off with blessings and prayers that they continue to keep Christ at the center of all that they do in the future.
