The Mercy Art Exhibition was initiated by the Catholic Diocese of Springfield in Illinois as a component of the worldwide celebration of the Jubilee Year of Mercy as proclaimed by Pope Francis, December 8, 2015 through November 20, 2016. Pope Francis encourages us to contemplate mercy: the mercy of God, the corporal and spiritual works of mercy, and mercy in our world. All are called upon to reawaken and rediscover MERCY and to, in turn, experience grace and joy. Each artist is asked to create their own unique interpretation of the theme of mercy as described by Pope Francis for consideration by the general public.
The Junior division of the exhibition is open to all middle through high school students in the Diocese of Springfield in Illinois regardless of religious affiliation. Additional information on the junior division will be announced in March 2016.
The Adult competition is national in scope and participants must be 19 years of age or older and open to people of all faith communities.
The exhibits are being hosted collaboratively by the Quincy Art Center Galleries (Adult, Summer) and Quincy University (Junior, Fall) both in Quincy, Illinois.
